About Intuit

Intuit Inc. a provider of business and financial management solutions was founded in 1983 by Scott Cook and Tom Proulx. Scott Cook was only 23 years old and one night while he and his wife were paying their bills he thought there must be a better way of managing household finances. He decided that if he could find a programmer he could develop a program to automate the hassle of paying bills. He literally bumped into Tom Proulx at Stanford University who created the first Quicken program in his dorm. The two co-founders started Intuit in Proulx's basement with a single product and seven employees. After they were unable to pay salaries one month, three employees left. The remaining four believed so much in the product that they kept working for six months without pay.

Intuit Inc.is now a leading provider of business and financial management solutions for small and mid-sized businesses; financial institutions, including banks and credit unions; consumers and accounting professionals. It is situated in Mountain View, California. Its products and services assist customers in North America, Asia, Europe and Australia, with offices in the USA, Canada, the UK and other locations.

In 1992 the company launched QuickBooks which it attributes about half its sales to. It is an accounting program for small businesses. In 1993 Intuit went public. In 1995 it introduced online banking and bill payment services and in 1997 it relaunched Quicken.com and introduced QuickenMortgage.
