About Malwarebytes

Malwarebytes provides anti-malware software to private consumers as well as businesses. Started by Marcin Klecznski in 2004 it now consists of a small but motivated team of developers, researchers, who work continually, and staff members who have catapulted it to a worldwide ranking of 7,813 and a ranking of 2,790 in the U.S. With just seven years of fighting malware it has removed 5 billion pieces and has had 100 million downloads worldwide. Google has ranked it at number 3,595 for estimated traffic and estimates that over 2 million users visit the site monthly. Malwarebytes is available in 36 languages and in a large assortment of retail stores.

Marcin Klecznski was working as a computer technician in 2004 and found that so many machines were being disabled by malware. When his own PC was infected it took three days for him to get advice about fixing it from the Internet forums. As a result he started building a Rogue Remover anti-malware program which he released in 2006. By 2008 the company was formally integrated and Kleczynski invited Marcus Chang, a security and e-commerce expert, to join him as CEO. They moved to San Jose, California, which is where the company is based today.

Malwarebytes has plans to open a European office and has acquired hpHosts. This works by tracking blacklisted websites, adservers and tracking servers. "The point is we can protect the internet community as a whole by stopping malware from being distributed to millions of people," Kleczynski said.

The Products

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is Malwarebytes main product and is also known as MBAM. Released in 2008 it has a free and paid version. The paid version includes a scheduled scan option, protection in real-time and flash memory scans to ensure computers are totally secure. It scans extremely quickly, performs full scans for all drives, updates the database daily, has extra manual malware removal and offers multi-lingual support.

Malwarebytes also offers free applications to help users speed up their computers. FileASSASIN (will destroy any locked files from users systems), RegASSASIN (clears parasitic registry keys and values) and StartUpLite (will speed up a computers start time).

Strengths

Malwarebytes' belief is that "every person has a fundamental right to a malware-free existence" and their software is superbly designed to deal with the problems we have today. Their customer service through their FAQ pages and forum is swift and helpful. In addition Malwarebytes want to move into the enterprise and mobile markets. They aim big and Kleczynski has put their goal at 223 million downloads by 2013. Their current excellent growth rate makes this absolutely possible.
