About SugarSync

SugarSync specializes in data synchronisation and backup software. This startup company was previously called Sharpcast and has its head office in San Mateo, California, with a staff of approximately 30 people. It was founded in 2004 by Gibu Thomas and Ben Strong who both left the company in 2008. Over the years it has received funding from Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Selby Ventures, as well as Sigma Partners.

The Products

SugarSync's main product is SugarSync Backup and Sync. This application syncs files, photos and media among multiple computers as well as continuously backing them up to online cloud storage on the Web. Data is stored securely using 128-bit AES encryption. Accessing your data can be done from any device connected to the Internet. It has versions for Home as well as Business as well being available for Windows and Mac OS X. Mobile Sync applications are available for iPad, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows mobile and Symbian devices.

Mission and Awards

SugarSyncs' mission is to bring its customers the best Personal Cloud solution on offer. It was thus an honour for them to be recognised as a winner in the TiE50 2011 awards (Silicon Valley's major annual awards) with over 1600 nominations and 291 finalists. SugarSync was awarded a place in the top 50 start-ups worldwide and as well as being one of 10 winners in the Software/Cloud Computing category.
